Elements of Ellen

Ellen B. Lassonde
In Memory of Ellen B. Lassonde
A life-long resident of Norwich, Connecticut, Ellen B. Lassonde was a woman who always presented herself well-dressed from head to toe. As a result, she always appeared confident and, more importantly, competent. It is remarkable what attention to one’s appearance can do for one’s self-esteem.

Ellen’s family and friends want her personal legacy to live on.   As a way to honor her, they have created, with the help of The Arc New London County, an exciting way to help women and men with disabilities enjoy the same sense of self-expression that Ellen enjoyed through dress and through style

Elements of Ellen is a creative idea that encourages professional retailers, beauticians and others to share their knowledge of and experience in the elements of style – fashion, hair care, skin care and more – with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The heart of Elements of Ellen lies in the development of self-presentation skills and the exploration of self-expression through style. Particularly important is the vocational component of the project, which supports workplace self‐presentation and professional success.

Elements of Ellen is an opportunity for all of us to work together to empower life change in a very proactive way; you have nothing to lose, and the men and women who will benefit from your generosity have everything to gain.

We hope you will support this effort to honor Ellen and support men and women with intellectual disabilities throughout Southeastern Connecticut to explore self-expression through style. Particularly important is the vocational component of Ellen, which supports workplace self-presentation and professional success.
