Donate to The Arc:

July 2009

Let's make "25 from 10" a big success in 2010!
Can you help us pass the hat?

Dear Friend of The Arc of New London County,

When The Arc was founded by parents in 1952, they passed the hat at meetings, sold baked goods and hosted yard sales. At the first meeting it is recorded in the hand-written journal that “…a donation was taken to be used as an operating fund in the amount of $10.69.” Today we rely upon our Annual Appeal and fund-raising events to support key programs not funded by the state or federal government. These Recreation, Camp and Respite programs are critical to participants and their families.

We know that many are struggling in this difficult economy. In fact, last year’s Annual Appeal suffered as well. So this year we are going back to our grass roots and asking folks to remember our founding parents: As a friend of The Arc, you can make a difference in the 2009-2010 fiscal year by supporting our “25 from 10” program

How it works . . .
If every person receiving this letter gives a $25 donation and passes this message on to 10 family members and friends who do the same, we will have one of our best campaigns ever…in spite of this challenging economy!  It’s easy!  Simply give a copy of this letter to 10 friends or family members. Or, just email it by visiting our Web page at www.thearcnlc.org.

Thanks to the generosity of our friends, this was a landmark year.  In February 2009, The Arc opened a new home donated to the agency by Mr. Perry Lorenz.  Located in Ledyard, this home fulfills our long-term goal of providing a permanent respite site for folks with intellectual disabilities living with their families in our communities.  In addition to two respite bedrooms, the home also provides a stable residence for four young women.

Employment support for Southeastern Connecticut . . .
In March, our new Employment Transition Center opened in Groton on the property of Sacred Heart Parish. Many area banks, foundations, organizations and individuals gave generously to help us make renovations and improvements to the site.

These two major initiatives would have been impossible without the kindness and generosity of good neighbors in our Southeastern Connecticut community. Please join these generous neighbors by supporting our 2009 - 2010 Annual Appeal and making “25 from 10” a big success in 2010. Keep the critical mission of The Arc working locally!

Thank you for your consideration and support.

Gratefully,
